CEO/PRINCIPAL

MATTHEW COX

Matthew is a Tucson-based Cleantech entrepreneur with over 15 years of experience in business model development, corporate strategy, economic analysis, market design and valuation in both the public and private sectors. His entrepreneurial and consulting work has spanned a number of industries including: Energy, Chemicals, Music, Financial Services & Regulation, Medical Products & Pharmaceuticals, Crude Oil, Natural Gas, Mining, and Software. Through his work experience, Matthew has developed a keen ability to evaluate market inefficiencies and develop feasible and effective business models to address and improve them. His expertise is in market design and valuation; business model development; financial, competitive and market analysis. He has also extensive research and development experience in industries such as real estate, banking and finance. Matthew has demonstrated a keen ability to evaluate market inefficiencies and develop and execute feasible and effective business models to address and improve them.

Chief Development Officer/Principal

JAMES “KELLY” MERRITT, JR.

Kelly brings technical and strategic expertise as the Chief Development Officer for Grannus. His utility experience and knowledge of polygeneration is the result of progressive responsibility in operations, construction, engineering, and development of over 8,000MW of generation, major transmission lines, pipelines and infrastructure.  He is known for implementing solutions for difficult projects and taking them into construction and operations.  Prior to co-founding Grannus, he worked with leading global energy companies developing, building, and operating utility scale solar and wind farms, combined cycle gas turbine, coal, and biomass plants internationally. He also project managed and operated water desalination, industrial gas separation, liquefied natural gas, propane, coal and other port and receiving stations, including railroads, truck, and ship unloading. He has also served as an independent consultant providing expertise in land rights, financing, and technical services to green energy companies.  He is a graduate of the U.S. Navy Nuclear Power School and proudly served as a United States Navy submariner with service and citations during Desert Storm. He currently sits on the intergovernmental steering committee for new energy and carbon capture technologies at Rice University and has been a guest speaker on the subject at University of Texas School of Law – Austin.

Chief Operating Officer/Principal

COREY M. SMITH

Corey has extensive experience with over 25 years in executive corporate management with an emphasis on sales and marketing and business development. His experience has been focused on high-growth, high-tech industries where he has also applied his experience in mergers and acquisitions and fundraising. He has held President/CEO and/or Director positions at more than twenty companies. He served as the Entrepreneur-in-Residence at the Arizona Center for Innovation since 2012 providing valuable guidance and insight to the clients. He has his Bachelor of Science in Business from Oregon State University.

Legal Counsel

NANCY WODKA

Nancy has over 30 years of experience in the development and financing of large-scale energy and other infrastructure projects in the U.S. and abroad, including fossil-fueled, nuclear and renewable power plants, pipelines and gas processing facilities. She has extensive experience in all aspects of project development and finance, including joint venture arrangements and project company structures; power sales; fuel arrangements; transmission and interconnection agreements; construction contracts; operations, maintenance and management agreements; and asset acquisitions and divestitures. Nancy has worked on projects as diverse as the financing of the first “build-own-transfer” power plant in Turkey using multilateral and export credit financing to the construction contracts for the first new nuclear power plants in the U.S. in 30 years.
